From Biogas Plant Which Gases Are Obtained

People want to know which gases from biogas plant are obtained. Actually, the main mixture of biogas is methane. But Biogas consists of 50%-80% methane (CH4), 20%-40% carbon dioxide (CO2), 0%-5% nitrogen (N2), less than 1% hydrogen (H₂), less than 0.4% oxygen (O2) and 0.1%-3% hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other gases. Since the biogas contains a small amount of hydrogen sulfide, it has a slight odor. Its properties are similar to those of natural gas. When the air contains 8.6-20.8% (by volume) of biogas, an explosive gas mixture will be formed.

Methane, the main component of biogas, is an ideal gaseous fuel. It is colorless and odorless, and will burn when mixed with an appropriate amount of air. The calorific value of pure methane per cubic meter is 34,000 kJ, and the calorific value of biogas per cubic meter is about 20,800-23,600 kJ. That is, after 1 cubic meter of biogas is completely burned, it can generate heat equivalent to 0.7 kg of anthracite coal. Compared with other gases, it has better anti-knock performance and is a good clean fuel.

The quality of biogas determines the calorific value of biogas, which is mainly determined by the composition of biogas, so the detection of biogas composition is very important.

Portable biogas analyzer

At present, the main methods of biogas detection are: austenitic gas analysis method, gas chromatography GC analysis method, thermal catalytic element detection method and infrared detection method. One of the quickest, most portable and efficient method is the use of a handheld biogas analyzer.
